Just when you thought horror movies couldn't get any weirder or imperfectly flawless, "The Human Centipede" was released onto the world on August 30, 2009.

Back then, audiences and critics alike were both disgusted and intrigued at the same time, according to the numbers and reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. That is mostly because it involved a stage of horror that had rarely been touched upon in the past.

The third installment is set to star both Dieter Laser and Laurence R. Harvey. But neither one are playing the same character as they did in their previous respective films.

According to Entertainment Weekly, they both work at a state prison as a Warden (Laser) and his assistant (Harvey). The prison is out of control and, under threats from the Governor (Eric Roberts), they come up with a new and horrifying idea to "rehabilitate" their prisoners; an idea inspired by the first two "Human Centipede" movies.

As the title suggested, "The Human Centipede" was about an insane, retired German surgeon (Laser) who specialized in separating conjoined twins. But in his retirement, his creativity went into reverse and he wanted to assimilate a creature with a single digestive tract, made out of three separate people. His victims were surgically attached from mouth to anus, leading audiences to horrifying revelations.

In the sequel, the first movie had taken place separate from the universe they were currently in. A mentally challenged, abused man (Laurence R. Harvey) in his 40s seems to be inspired while watching the first "Human Centipede" movie on his laptop and decides to create one of his own, only with 12 people this time.

Another detail that breaks the fictional universes between the two movies is the girl who played Jenny (Ashlynn Yennie) in the first film becomes a victim as her real-life self in the second film.
