Will William Shatner make his return to the "Star Trek" franchise's next installment?

The legendary Trekkie was expected to make an appearance in the third film of the reboots, but has admitted to being completely confused about his current situation.

"'Tell us about "Star Trek 3".' I said, 'I know nothing," he said according to WENN.com. "'Well, we know the scene you're in.' They told me the scene I was in. I literally knew nothing and this guy said he had read the scene!

"But the director that I talked to was fired, so somebody else is at the helm, so I have no idea."

The director that Shatner refers to is Roberto Orci. The famed screenwriter was originally hired to be the heir to J.J. Abrams in the galactic franchise, but Orci stepped away from the director's seat.

No one knows exactly why Orci made this determination, but it was slated to be his directorial debut and some rumors that he did not feel up to the task.

Despite no longer being the director, Orci is slated to be the producer for the film. He produced the second film in the new trilogy, "Star Trek Into Darkness," and was an executive producer on the 2009 reboot.

Shatner is best known for his role as Captain Kirk on "Star Trek" and appeared in the franchise's TV series, the Animated Series and the seven films spanning from 1979 through 1994. He has yet to make an appearance in the reboot franchise, though many expect him to grace the screen alongside Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg and Zoe Saldana among others.

The most recent, "Star Trek Into Darkness" grossed $228 million domestically and over $460 million internationally. Despite the solid numbers, it had actually decreased from its predecessor which brought in $257 million domestically, but $385 internationally.
