Four-time Golden Globe nominated "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara and "Wild" Oscar nominee Reese Witherspoon teamed up in a hilarious new action-comedy "Hot Pursuit," but the acting got so intense on set that Witherspoon had to be sent to the emergency room!

According to reports, during an appearance on Monday's "Ellen DeGeneres Show," Vergara admitted that she got a little carried away during one of her fight scenes with Witherspoon. "I sent her to the emergency room," the 42-year-old Colombian star said. "Something with internal bleeding."

While Witherspoon didn't divulge the "secret" injury, Witherspoon elaborated, "I thought my appendix had burst."

It turns out that Witherspoon really takes her acting seriously, which includes an Oscar for Best Actress for "Walk the Line" in 2005. But she apparently takes it too seriously!

"I pushed her and I pushed her and I kept telling her I think I'm pushing you too hard and she was like 'No, do it real,'" Vergara recalled.

"I was like, 'Push me hard!'" Witherspoon added.

And that's when it happened and with a funny demonstration on the couch, Vergara said, "and I popped her ovary."

DeGeneres looked to Witherspoon for her reaction and she added: "It's clearly something that happens in Colombia... I don't know what happened."

In "Hot Pursuit," Witherspoon plays "an uptight and by-the-book" Texan cop who tries to protect "the sexy and outgoing widow (Vergara) of a drug boss as they race through Texas pursued by crooked cops and murderous gunmen."

Witherspoon also speaks Spainish in the film. While said she studied Spanish in high school for two years, Vergara insisted her Spanish was "horrible."

"She turned to me and started laughing really hard," Witherspoon added. "She wasn't even nice about it."

"It wasn't horrible," Vergara added. "Because now I finally understand why I am funny to the Americans."
