Claire and Geilles are both in trouble. That’s where we left them after the end of last week’s episode “By the Pricking of My Thumb.” The two friends have been arrested for witchcraft.

What can we expect from the upcoming episode? Titled “The Devil’s Mark,” which is a bit ominous, the episode will focus in part, at least, on the trial of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek).

The two friends were arrested after Laogharie (Nell Duncan) sent a message posing as Geillis to Claire asking her to meet. Despite Jamie’s warning not to see her, Claire went and failed to warn and persuade Geillis to flee. She believes Dougal (Graham McTavish) will protect her, unaware he has been exiled.

However, last week’s episode ends with the two being arrested for witchcraft and being taken away as Laogharie watches.

The preview for next week’s episode shows the trial and, at one point, Claire screams “murderers!” to the court. Does that mean they have been found guilty and were sentenced to death, a punishment at the time for witchcraft?

In a clip released by Starz as a sneak peek into the episode, Claire and Geillis are in a cell and they are arguing. Claire reveals Dougal has been exiled and he will not help them, contrary to Geillis’s belief. However, she blames her for telling Collum (Gary Lewis) about the affair, even though she never did. Could a rift be appearing between the friends?

According to E! News, there is more to come from Geillis.

"For my character particularly, Geillis, she's going to be really surprising. You're going to see a side of her you haven't seen before. Things are going to heat up quite a bit,” Verbeek had said about her character in an interview.

However, we can expect a lot from the episode. Speaking with Access Hollywood Balfe talked positively of the episode.

"It was such a fantastic episode to film," she said. "I love that episode."

Hopefully, we learn who denounced Claire and Geillis. My money is on Laogharie but it could also be Father Bain (Tim McInnerny) who alluded to the fact that Claire may be related to Satan because of her healing powers.

Episode 11, “The Devil’s Mark,” will air on Saturday, April 18 at 9 p.m. on Starz.
