In March of 1995, young Selena's life was cut all too short by a bullet. It was a murder that shocked the world.

The singer would have turned 44 on Thursday, and now her family – with the support of her fans – would like to bring her likeness back with a fundraiser to support "a walking, talking, singing, and dancing digital embodiment," as reported on the IndieGogo website.

The family hopes to raise $500,000, but in the first 12 hours, there have only been 32 people donate $1,065. There is still 33 days left.

As featured on the website, the likeness of Selena will be captured using "Acrovirt" technology. This technology is able to capture a person's likeness, which includes it's manners, speech, language, body, shape and all other features available.

By doing so, it is able to reconstruct an Acrovirt of Selena that can move, think and sing in very much the same way the late singer did when she was alive. Her entire likeness is present in the Acrovirt. The company points out that it is not a hologram, though others have described it as so.

The company, Acrovert, LLC entered into a partnership with Q-Productions and the Quintanilla family in order to make Selena the first Acrovirt creation, which can enable her to continue making music and collaborate with current artists. This technology, in effect, will bring Selena into the 21st Century and give her legions of fans an opportunity to see her perform again.

This campaign, titled "Selena The One," is an effort by her family and Acrovirt to reconstruct a legend that has inspired millions. That is why they are using crowd funding as a way to bring their technology to the market.

Fans can donate to this Acrovirt campaign or get updates on how much has been raised by clicking on this Selena The One link. Updates are also available on Facebook.

The campaign has gotten off to a slow start, but there has been some hesitation. For example, Latino Rebels said its readers thought the campaign was "creepy."

But perhaps the campaign will get a boost this weekend. A festival will be held in Corpus Christi, TX on April 17-18 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her passing.

The festival is called Fiesta de la Flor and it will be held downtown in North Bayfront Park. This two-day festival is meant to celebrate her life and legacy, which will feature Tejano musicians, artisan vendors and fantastic cuisines from around the state.
