Samsung's Ativ Book 9 is almost identical to Apple's 12-inch Macbook. The specs are very similar too for this Windows-based lightweight laptop, CNet reports.

The Samsung Ativ Book 9 appears to be an almost carbon-copy of the latest 12-inch Macbook. Both laptops have a display that has a better-than-HD resolution. Both laptops also use Intel's Core M processor. Just like the Macbook, the Ativ Book 9 has a premium feel design that is lightweight, weighing in right around two pounds.

There are some differences between the two though.

Macbook's battery life is much better than the Ativ Book 9. The keyboard on the Ativ Book 9 is sufficient for a small laptop, but it cannot compare to the Macbook's keyboard.

If a buyer compares the Ativ Book 9 with the Macbook and puts the same amount of RAM and storage space in them, the Ativ Book 9 prices $100 higher. An Ativ Book 9 with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space will cost $1,399.

The Ativ Book 9 beats Apple's Macbook with more ports and connections. The new Macbooks have shifted to a single USB-C port. The Ativ Book 9 manages to include two USB 3.0 ports, a Micro-HDMI port, an audio jack and a power connection.

The Ativ Book 9 has a keyboard and touch pad that will satisfy most users. Just like the Macbook, there is no touchscreen. This is a miss for the Ativ Book 9 since Windows 8 has many features that use touchscreen.

Samsung adds the Samsung Smart Advisor toolbar to the operating system. This is a nice toolbar that will perform Internet searches, allow users to check their email, update settings and more.

While the Samsung Ativ Book 9 cannot come close to the Macbook's near-12-hour battery life, it is has the best battery life for any Windows-based Core M laptop made. The Ativ Book 9 can go for about eight hours before it needs to be recharged.

The entry-level Ativ Book 9 comes with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space. This version is $100 less than a Macbook with the same specs.

The design and color scheme of the Ativ Book is definitely more appealing than the Macbook, Laptop Magazine reports

"Samsung's design is luxurious. The dark blue finish provides a great alternative to the sea of other brushed-metal laptops," Laptop magazine said.
