The New York Knicks had the worst season in franchise history this year and team president Phil Jackson is facing a big challenge in the offseason as their fans are expecting major changes to improve their chances next season.

Jackson, whose team finished with the second-worst record in the regular season at 17-65, told reporters that he cannot guarantee the team will be a strong title contender next season, but he vowed to make moves to improve their roster this summer by using the triangle offense and Carmelo Anthony as selling points.

According to ESPN New York, the Knicks will have at least $25 million in cap space to make a run at free agents this summer. Jackson said that they will look to sign at least two players who are capable of starting for the team immediately next season.

"Getting two or three players of talent changes your direction quickly," Jackson said of improving a team by acquiring marquee players via free agency. "We've all seen that."

Jackson said that they will try to recruit free agents by using their triangle offense as their main selling point. They will also try to attract superstars by using Anthony's presence. Previous reports indicated the Knicks will make a run at signing superstar point guard Rajon Rondo and emerging star Greg Monroe.

"We have a unique style, and that attracts certain people," Jackson said. "We know that we have a limited amount and we have to do some very judicious shopping. We're not going to the Dollar Store, but we may not be at one of the bigger stores."

Aside from free agency, Jackson also said that they will try to improve their team by picking the best prospect in the 2015 NBA Draft. The Knicks have the second-best chance to grab the first-overall pick, which would give them the opportunity to acquire Kentucky star Karl-Anthony Towns or Duke standout Jahlil Okafor in draft.

Jackson also admitted that they will consider trading the pick when the final order is determined after the lottery next month. But if the pick lands from first to fourth, the 11-time NBA champion coach said that they will likely keep their first-round pick.

"Everything starts when the picks come in on the 19th of May," Jackson said of trading their first-round pick. "Everything starts to germinate from there. Do you move a pick 1, 2, 3 or 4? Um, that's questionable. Do you move a pick five if that's the end result and use it as a chip? Maybe. So there's a lot of options out there."
