Dave Chappelle was soundly booed during a recent standup performance in Detroit.

According to People, much to the stunned and angered chagrin of fans, 41-year-old Chappelle reportedly "slurred his words" throughout much of his Thursday night show at the Fillmore Theatre on what is being promoted as his comeback tour.

The site adds fans heckled Chappelle through much of the show, with one patron actually going as far as to shout to the famed comedian, "Let's hear some of the act!"

Later, scores of dissatisfied attendees took to social media to post such critical assessments as, "Horrible, don't go. Second show last night was ridiculous. Walked out. Did not get what I paid for ... refunds please."

Still, another attendee posted, "Can we get a refund ... was at the 2nd show and he was wasted."

And yet, Chappelle garnered rave reviews from the Detroit News, which deemed his first show before a sold-out audience at the Fillmore as "cool and calm."

This hardly marks the first time the outspoken Chappelle has been at odds with at least some of his audience over the performance he gave them. In January of this year, he walked off a stage in Hartford, Connecticut after fans heckled him seemingly for the duration of one performance.

Right around that same time, E! News reported the former Comedy Central funnyman might be considering a return to TV by signing a deal with a subscription service such as Hulu or Netflix.

"He's enjoying his life," reps for Chappelle countered. "He has a new daughter and is just doing what he's really passionate about -- stand-up." Sources close to Chappelle also added if he were truly considering a return to TV, he would likely seek a much larger platform which a niche subscription service might be able to provide him.
