The Philadelphia Eagles signed Tim Tebow to a one-year deal for the 2015 NFL season, but fellow quarterback Mark Sanchez is not bothered by his team's decision to sign the former Heisman Trophy winner.

Sanchez, who is familiar with Tebow because they played together in 2012 with the New York Jets, does not consider Tebow a threat to his bid to become the starting quarterback of the Eagles in the upcoming season.

Sanchez said that the team had to add another arm in training camp while Sam Bradford is recovering from injury, which he thinks was the reason why the Eagles decided to sign Tebow.

"He's obviously a great guy, he works hard. And we needed another guy to throw while Sam is still recovering," Sanchez said of Tebow in an interview with CSN Philly. "So that's the reason, at least as explained to me. We're excited about the upcoming year and I think we have a great group."

Sanchez had a decent year last season when he threw 64.1 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns. He is in strong contention for a starting role even if the Eagles acquired Bradford in a trade that sent Nick Foles to the St. Louis Rams.

Sanchez said that the decision to trade for Bradford and sign Tebow has not affected him and he is actually expecting changes before the start of the season.

"I knew we were going to have to do something," Sanchez said. "Like I said, it's going to be a fun year. Coach Kelly knows what he's doing. Don't worry too much. It's only April. Things will fall into place. We'll be just fine."

Tebow, the 25th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, has not played in a regular-season game since the 2012 NFL season when he appeared in 12 games for the Jets. He was cut by the New England Patriots before the start of the 2013 NFL season and did not get serious interest from teams since then. That is until the Eagles invited him to a workout.

Eagles vice president of player personnel Ed Marynowitz recently defended their decision to sign Tebow. He said the 27-year-old showed improvements during a workout last month.

"We worked him out and we saw improvement from the last time that we saw him," Marynowitz said. "We had exposure to him live when he was with New England when they practiced here in 2013. When we worked him out, we saw a great deal of improvement with him."
