The details related to the season finale of "Castle" have been largely cloaked in mystery, but it now appears safe to conclude co-stars Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) will live to see another day.

Entertainment Weekly reports executive producer Andrew Marlowe recently revealed, "I think that we can say that if we were to come back next year, we would be coming back with all of our pieces intact. It's not a 'Grey's Anatomy' situation by any means."

If only the show's overall fate were so clear. Not only has the show not officially been greenlight for a new season, Fillion's and Katic's contracts are both set to run out at the end of the season. Network executives recently moved to sign Fillion to a new deal, but that's all pending on what becomes of the show.

As for the "Hollander Woods" entitled finale, TV Line reports it's expected to delve into the question of why Castle moved to become a mystery writer.

"One of the areas we haven't explored is why Castle became a mystery writer," said Marlowe. "Was there something that created a fascination with murder and with death and with bodies?"

These days, an even more riveting question might be what will come of Katic and her Beckett character. The May 11 airing finale reportedly finds her at a crossroads and wondering if she should be doing "something more, something a little bit bigger" with her life.

Earlier this year,  she told TV Line of her character, "If the character is complete, if there is nowhere else to go creatively, then I think it's better to stop when you're on top. [F]or me it's about art over finance."

Both former "Fringe" star Lance Reddick and "CSI" alum Wallace Langham are slated to star in the finale, which is also expected to Castle's Season 6 disappearance on what would have been his wedding day.
