Will it be a White Christmas in your neck of the woods?

People across the United States will experience a variety of different weather conditions when they wake up on Christmas morning. The far northeastern United States will have high chances of snow while the eastern portion of the Midwest is going to be dry to the bone. The further western portion of the nation, however, could be getting pummeled from the edge of the Midwest all the way to California.

According to AccuWeather, the storms this week in the central and northern United States will affect more than two dozen states and 100 million people.

Kansas and southern Nebraska could be getting dumped on by three to six inches of snow on Christmas while temperatures are expected to be as much as 25 degrees below the average this week.

Temperatures across the east coast have been unusually warm as of late. The temps hovered around 70 degrees in New York City over the weekend, but residents shouldn't get too comfortable. The temperature on Christmas Dday is not going to be exceeding 30 degrees, according to Weather.com.

Other parts of New York State are experiencing ice problems after the warm weather melted a great deal of the snow while rain made matters even worse. New York's Governor, Andrew Cuomo, declared a winter ice emergency in the state.

Holiday Travel Expectations

The two areas of the nation that will bring about the most travel difficulties are the upper northwest and the northeastern region extending all the way down through the eastern Midwest, according to AccuWeather.

Although there could very well be a great deal of flight delays to go along with road problems in various parts of the United States, airlines are looking to go the extra mile. A number of airlines are offering Christmas meals for passengers; Lufthansa is even giving bags of gingerbread to passengers who will be making the journey around the world on the holiday.
