Some people are celebrating this year's Cinco de Mayo with festivities around their neighborhoods while others are throwing their own fiesta.

Check out some ways you can customize your Cinco de Mayo celebration with party ideas and food recipes.

For party ideas, Punchbowl lists a few tips that include a themed party or a costume party.

For a themed party some hosts might want to go with "Margarita Madness." Hosts can set up a few buffet tables for the different drinks. Don't forget to serve non-alcoholic beverages for the designated drivers.

Another great theme is to have a taco bar where guests get to choose from several meats and toppings for the traditional Mexican food. Each "Make Your Own Taco Bar" buffet table can have toppings, types of tacos and fillings. Some guests can also bring their own ingredients for the taco bar as a potluck.

To keep guests entertained, Punchbowl also lists a few party activities that include traditional dancing.

Hosts can hire a dance instructor to teach guests a traditional Mexican or Latin dance, such as salsa, samba or bachata.

Savory Experiments has tons of recipes for Cinco de Mayo. For those of you making last-minute dishes, cook a three-minute salsa dip that hosts will love. All you need is canned tomatoes, green chiles with fresh onion, garlic, jalapeno and cilantro and a Blendtec blender.

Check out Savory Experiments for more recipes including Grilled Mexican Corn. It only takes five minutes to roll a cob of corn in crema Mexicana, crumbled cheese and lime juice. After that, grill it for about an hour and a half.

Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Battle of Puebla that took place in Mexico on May 5, 1862, according to Tech Times. The Mexican holiday is a bigger tradition in the United States than it is in Mexico.

Traditions that celebrate Cinco de Mayo in the U.S. include partying hard, drinking margaritas, hitting a piñata and eating tacos. In Mexico, people traditionally dress in French military uniforms and Mexican uniforms to march in a parade and re-enact the Battle of Puebla.
