Most fans were disappointed with the result from the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, but they might see the two fighters collide again next year.

Mayweather reportedly told ESPN insider Stephen A. Smith that he is willing to give Pacquiao a rematch in a year. The reigning pound-for-pound king did not mention a possible date for the second fight, but reports indicated that the fight might take place in May or September next year.

Mayweather improved to 48-0 on Saturday night when he scored a unanimous decision win against Pacquiao, preventing the Filipino boxing icon from executing his fight plan with his vaunted wall-like defense.

Pacquiao, who lost his World Boxing Organization welterweight title, said after the fight that he is willing to face Mayweather again, but he conceded he is unsure if the reigning pound-for-pound king will give him another shot.

Boxing fans were also calling for an immediate rematch in September, but the fight is not possible after Pacquiao revealed he sustained a shoulder injury that will put him on the sidelines for several months.

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Pacquiao will undergo shoulder surgery to repair a torn right rotator cuff. The date of the surgery is not yet set, but it will be performed by world renowned surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles.

ElAttrache said that Pacquiao will likely be out of action for nine to 12 months, but the former pound-for-pound king could return to training in six months if everything goes well in his recovery.

"If all goes as expected with the surgery and the rehab is successful, Manny could be back training in about six months," ElAttrache said. "At that point, he will be regaining strength and endurance, and competition is reasonable within nine months to a year. But this is a severe enough tear that it won't heal without being repaired."

Meanwhile, the Nevada Athletic Commission also announced that Pacquiao could face possible fine or suspension after failing to disclose his injury before the fight.

Nevada Athletic Commission chairman Francisco Aguilar said on Monday that Pacquiao was asked to fill up a questionnaire before the fight, where he failed to answer accurately. It remains to be seen whether or not the possible sanction will affect the rumored rematch between Pacquiao and Mayweather.
