Apple is reportedly planning to release a bigger 5-inch iPhone 6 this coming May and a large 13-inch tablet in October 2014.

The Cupertino-based company is to start the production of the highly-anticipated iPhone 6 with a 20nm processor, featuring slightly larger display than its previous iPhone 5S but smaller than Samsung's 5-inch Galaxy 4 - the device is most-likely to have a 4.8-inch display. The components are provided by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), and the launch is scheduled for May 2014.

In addition to iPhone 6, a 12.9-inch iPad Pro or iPad Maxi - the official name for the device is yet to be set - is slated for the October release, and it will be "targeting North America's educational market," as well as business world.

Manufactured by Quanta Computer, the tech giant's partner for decades, it is said to be a hybrid device between iPad and MacBook Air, which will be a defacto laptop with the addition of new cases, integrated keyboards and batteries. Although the size of screen hasn't yet been confirmed, it seems not to exceed the 13.3 inches from the initial 12.9 inches. The over-sized tablet is expected to adopt the same processor, performance as its predecessor, iPad Air. It is being considered as a substitute of the 11-inch MacBook Air.

The apparent larger display sizes will put additional effort on iOS 7 and developers, who will need to figure out how to adapt their apps to even more configurations. The additional formats will provide opportunities for applications as well, and we can anticipate that iOS 8 will contain many features designed to accommodate multi-screen design.
