The road to WWE's "Payback" pay-per-view event continued on "SmackDown" with a contract signing featuring all members of The Shield.

The show, however, started with Bad News Barrett, the 2015 King of the Ring. Jerry "The King" Lawler interviewed Barrett, but the segment goes awry as Barrett threatens the Bullhammer on the Hall of Famer. Dolph Ziggler arrived for the save and created the first match of the night: Barrett vs. Ziggler.

The match was short lived as Sheamus interrupted. Neville made the save for Ziggler, which resulted in a tag-team match between Neville and Ziggler against Barrett and Sheamus. In what was described as a "very good tag match," Neville and Ziggler got the win.

Following his loss against Rusev on "Monday Night Raw," Fandango encountered another loss at the hands of Luke Harper. After the match, Harper's former Wyatt brethren -- Erick Rowan -- appeared and beat down Fandango.

Ahead of United States Champion John Cena's "I Quit" match against Rusev at "Payback," Lana appeared but was interrupted by The Bulgarian Brute. After he yells at her, Rusev delivered a promo against Cena.

WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day are next in six-on-six tag-team competition. The tag champs defeated Cesaro, Tyson Kidd and Ryback. Bray Wyatt made his presence as the lights were turned off in the arena. With the light distraction, a New Day member rolled-up Kidd for the pin.

The Divas are next. Tamina made her "SmackDown" return to support Naomi as the latter defeated Emma. After the match, Naomi and Tamina beat down Emma.

Another tag-team match occurred with The Lucha Dragons defeating Los Matadores.

The contract signing for "Payback's" main event was "SmackDown's" main event. Kane was the first in the ring and spoke about the pay-per-view match and its participants. While WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins refused to enter the ring and stayed on stage, his challengers -- Roman Reigns, Randy Orton and Dean Ambrose -- signed the contract. Rollins tried to have the three challengers turn on each other. After the contract was signed, a brawl broke out in the ring while Rollins was safe from the action.
