According to Us Weekly, "Law & Order: SVU" star Danny Pino will be leaving the show after his character Amaro endured a nearly catastrophic injury that forced him to reevaluate his life and retire from the force.

Sgt. Benson (Marsika Hargitay), had taken very well to Amaro, who came in to replace original series star Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) in Season 13.

The character seemed to support Benson in a familial way that gave him the incentive to go all out for her when she was attempting to adopt Noah, whose own father, Johnny D., was a sex trafficker.

The character Johnny D. was on trial for his crimes when shots came out across that courtroom that hit Amaro, nearly threatening his life. Before he was carted off to the hospital, Benson had a few words that seemed to sum up what he had meant to her at that point.

Benson, who had just secured her adoption of the young boy, was obviously taken aback by his loyalty to her and her new son. But Amaro, who eventually survived the attack, shocked the unit when he made the announcement that he was not going to return during the celebration for Noah's adoption.

"I grew more in the last four years with you than I did in the 12 years I was with [Stabler]. That relationship, whatever it was, didn't allow for anything else. But with you, with your support, I have a family," Benson told Amaro in the scene. "You helped me grow."

When Meloni left the show, Pino came on in 2011 to take his place along with Kelli Giddish. It is not clear who will be taking his place on the show, but there is speculation, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that Peter Scanavino, who has already played the new Det. Sonny Carisi, might be one of the options at this point.
