Leonardo DiCaprio, the "Wolf of Wall Street" actor, just had a friendly bidding war with hotel heiress Paris Hilton over a Chanel purse, People reported.

The bidding war was actually part of a charity event named Heart Fund's Generous People Dinner Gala. Celebrities such as model Sara Sampaio, retired hockey player Anson Carter, and music artist Akon also participated in the bidding war. Gary Dourdan and hip-hop artist Mos Def were also present in the event, E! Online noted.

The "Titanic" actor reportedly dropped more than $10,000 for the branded purse. DiCaprio and Hilton reportedly remained until the Gala at the InterContinental Carlton Cannes in France was over.

"Paris was great. She bid on many things, and Leo did too," the source said. "Both her and Leo were so active during the entire auction. It was really nice to see."

The magazine's eyewitness also said DiCaprio was "laughing and enjoying himself with his friends."

The amount he paid for the purse became part of the charity event's record-setting 5.1 million euros collected as donation for one night. Children all over the world will benefit from the proceeds, which will be used for diagnosis of heart-related disorders or diseases and even medical operations.

Why did the 40-year-old actor buy the purse in the first place? The online magazine stated that the "Blood Diamond" actor will give the purse he won to his beloved mother.

Leo's a True-Blue Mama's Boy

The actor who got matinee-idol stardom through Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" is known for his generosity and great sense of community involvement. He even bought an island called Blackadore Caye to help its conservation, New York Times reported.

Leo's being a "Mama's boy" as described by E! Online is true, and his fans know it too. The actor proudly takes his mother to formal events such as the Golden Globe Awards and even the Oscars. In an interview with PhilStar in 2000, DiCaprio expressed how important his mother is to him.

"My mother meant everything to me. When I was young, she brought me to Germany to be with my grandparents and to see what my German heritage was like. We traveled around the world together. She made me the person that I am now. She taught me honesty," DiCaprio said.
