Academy Award winner Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" almost didn't make it after a copy of its script was leaked online. But luckily, the obstacle didn't stop the movie from pushing forward as the film is set to come out later in 2015.

Here are more details about the film:

The 52-year-old director filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Gawker Media after the outlet leaked his script for the film, "The Hateful Eight," in 2014. A week after, Tarantino was reported to have withdrawn his lawsuit "without prejudice," reported Variety.

In January 2014, Gawker uploaded a link to a copy of the film's script on its Defamer site. The article directed readers to access the PDF copy via a third party hosting site.

At that time, the director announced that he would shelve the plans to create the movie. Instead, he hosted a stage reading of the script. Soon after, Tarantino revealed that he was still tinkering with script, and production of the movie followed.

In September of the same year, NY Daily News reported that Tarantino was seen talking to Viggo Mortensen, which led people to speculate that the "Lord of the Rings" actor is being eyed for a role in the upcoming western film.

Citing a source close to the matter, the new site claimed that the two men were seen talking with scripts in front of them while at the Greenwich Hotel in Tribeca.

In March 2015, the actor confirmed to Grantland that he did speak with the director for a possible role in the movie. However, he had to pass up the opportunity because of his other commitments.

"All of last fall, I traveled nonstop. I was on a plane every two days to promote 'Jauja' and 'Far From Men.' I knew as a producer and an actor that I needed to do that for those movies to have a chance to be seen. Tarantino wanted to start shooting at the end of the year and do rehearsals before that, and I just couldn't do that schedule-wise," said Mortensen.

The upcoming movie is the second time Kurt Russell has worked with Tarantino. He first collaborated with the acclaimed actor in "Death Proof" and was about to join "Django Unchained," but the deal did not push through. He plays the role of John Ruth in the film, the one they called "The Hangman," wrote Cinema Blend.

Jennifer Jason Leigh joins Russell as the latter's prisoner or bounty in the movie. Samuel L. Jackson, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth and Michael Madsen are also part of the film.

"The Hateful Eight" would hit theaters in late 2015.
