Could "The Walking Dead" actor Tyler James Williams be the next Spider-Man?

The young actor, best known for his role on "Everybody Hates Chris," admitted during an interview with Flicks and the City that he would be thrilled to play the role of Miles Morales.

"I kind of follow the Miles Morales character quite a bit," Williams was quoted as saying by Variety. "And I'm open to the idea, I am. I'm not starting campaigns or anything for it because I trust Marvel. I've read for them before. So I trust what their decisions will be," he added.

"But yeah, I'd love to do it," said the 22-year-old star. "I would absolutely love to do it," he continued.

For those unaware, Morales died in the comic series in 2011. There has been a call for superheroes to be more diverse and if this is the direction that Marvel would like to take, Williams is said to be a good choice, wrote The Source.

Marvel introduced the character in 2011 as part of its parallel world, dubbed as "Marvel's Ultimate Universe." Morales is a 13-year-old half-black half-latino middle schooler who takes over as Spidey following the death of Parker.

Williams isn't the only one interested in him playing the role of the web-slinging hero. After the actor was linked to the film, Variety noted that fans launched a campaign for the actor to play in the role.

However, in a previous article by The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel's Chief Creative Officer already confirmed that the film will not be about Morales but remain centered on Parker.

"The trick to making any incarnation of Spider-Man great, whether comics, animation or film is Peter Parker," wrote Joe Quesada in Tumblr back in April. "Get Peter's character right and the rest falls into place."

It must be noted that the emphasis on Parker doesn't mean that Williams is no longer in the running but the site acknowledges that it does lessen the possibility significantly.

The news comes after the announcement that Spider-Man will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The stand alone Spider-Man movie is set to premiere on July 2017. Prior to the solo movie, the character will reportedly make its debut in another Marvel film, "Captain America: Civil War."

Below is the video of Williams. The comments about the character was made around the 1:41 minute mark.
