After making a miraculous recovery from cardiac arrest, a Texas teenager claims that he saw and spoke with Jesus Christ for the 20 minutes that he was clinically dead.

Zack Clements of Brownwood passed out on the football field during endurance training on May 5 due to sudden cardiac arrest. Doctors said that he was clinically dead for 20 minutes and then remained unconscious for three days.

When he finally awoke at the Fort Worth's Children's Medical Center, the 17-year-old high school student told his parents that he saw Jesus. He described the Son of God as having long ruffled hair, a thick beard and blue eyes. He also said that he was surrounded by angels.

"I realized it was Jesus," Clements told People magazine. "He put his hand on my shoulder and told me that everything was going to be all right. It made me feel like someone was watching over me and I was going to get through it. Since it happened, I feel like I'm a stronger person."

Clements' remarkable recovery from death and story has since been featured in several media outlets. However, his father, Billy, said not everyone believes he is telling the truth.

"We've had people say he's lying, or that we gave him a pill before school that day so it would look like he'd gone into cardiac arrest," Billy Clements said.

"For him to wake up and tell us something he experienced like that. It's just -- you can't explain it. It's not humanly possible to explain it," he added, according to Daily Mail.

"People can argue science and logic, but they can't argue somebody's personal experience," he says. "They can't take that away from Zack."

Principal Gary Bay of the Christian High School says Clements' situation was one of the "gravest" he has has ever seen.

"If everyone hadn't worked on him as quickly and efficiently as they did, I'm not sure he would have made it," he added.

Dr. Lisa Roten also confirmed that "for 20 minutes, he was legally dead."

"We were worried he may have suffered irreversible brain damage," the 49-year-old cardiologist says.
