Earlier this year, fans of CBS' "Criminal Minds" got a taste of the show's new spinoff series, "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders." The spinoff, however, focuses on an international division of the FBI and features FBI agents who help American citizens in danger in other countries.

The pilot episode, which aired April 8, introduced former "CSI: NY" star Gary Sinise as the series star Jack Garrett and the head of the international BAU unit. Other members of the International Unit included "Breaking Bad" actress Anna Gunn, Daniel Henney as Special Ops Agent Matthew Simmons and Tyler James Williams from "The Walking Dead" as International Unit tech guru Russ "Monty" Montgomery, reports Buddy TV.

However, CBS president Nina Tassler recently revealed that Anna Gunn is no longer a part of the show, despite the fact that she played a huge role in the pilot. Instead, Tassler says the new series will create other characters as it fine-tunes its cast.

"Gary [Sinise] is sort of larger than life and [as Jack Garrett] he filled a lot of the same [needs as Gunn's character]. But we're actually going to be adding a couple of new characters" that "speak more to the needs of the franchise," Tassler explained to TVLine.

"Criminal Minds" executive producer Erica Messer also confirmed that Jennifer Love Hewitt will not reprise her role as Kate on Season 11 of the show since she is pregnant in real life and plans to take time off for maternity leave.Series star AJ Cook also revealed that she, too, is pregnant during the Season 10 finale.

As a result, Messer revealed that her character, JJ, won't be featured in the first couple of episodes of the new season since Cook will be on leave. Instead, the show will find a way to write around her maternity leave while she is gone.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner explained that the season finale "helps us answer why she's likely not in the first episode or so."

"We laid the groundwork for it, and then we can remind everybody in the premiere that she's on maternity leave," she added.
