Remarkable women in several areas like politics, business and entertainment, among others, were listed in Forbes' 100 Most Powerful Women of 2015.

The top three spots were occupied by the following:

1. Angela Merkel

German Chancellor Angela Merkel topped this year's list of powerful women. Forbes explained that her third successful election in Germany made her the longest-serving elected European head of state. Merkel's commitment to ease national recession, generous action towards the ailing Greek economy, a strong stand against terrorism and ISIS and her manner of diplomacy towards the Russia-Ukraine crisis, rightfully let her claim the top spot.

In an interview with SPIEGEL Merkel was asked, "When was the last time you felt powerless?"

Merkel responded confidently, "That isn't a feeling I normally have, even though I can't always achieve what's important to me right away, of course. I have to be patient and convince others to go along with me. This applies to both domestic politics and international affairs."

The German Chancellor also shared her views on democracy and human rights. She said, "Human rights are indivisible. Human dignity isn't just important in Germany, but everywhere in the world. I'm convinced that the rule of law, democracy and freedom will be unstoppable everywhere in the long run."

2. Hillary Rodham Clinton

Forbes predicted that if there is "only one woman who has a chance" of getting the top spot from Merkel next year, it would be "the world's No. 2 most powerful woman," U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. Clinton's rank jumped four notches from 6th place last year. The "presumptive Democratic front-runner in the 2016 presidential race" showed how determined she is in her goal of becoming the next U.S. president by aggressively campaigning early, using social media as her campaign platform.

If she wins the presidency, she would not just be the most powerful woman, but also the most powerful leader in the world, heading the most powerful country.

3. Melinda Gates

Melinda Gates, a philanthropist and wife of the equally benevolent, richest man in the world, Bill Gates, landed on the 3rd spot of this year's list. She cofounded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with her husband in 2000, and last year alone, it generously contributed $3.9 billion to society. She has become a real inspiration to women all over the world. She now attends to her full efforts "on championing investments in women and girls" world-wide, the site noted.

Meanwhile, U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama took the 10th spot, while women from the entertainment industry like TV host Oprah Winfrey (12), pop star Beyonce Knowles (21), TV host Ellen DeGeneres (50), and actress-director Angelina Jolie (54), were included in the list.

The "Blank Space" singer, Taylor Swift (64), also made it to Forbes' most powerful women of 2015 list. It is Swift's first time to be included in the prestigious list and she currently is the youngest female on the roster, at age 25.
