The summer premiere of the ABC Family hit show the “The Fosters” airs on June 8.

As reported by Spoilers Guide, the episode, titled “Wreckage,” has Callie (Maia Mitchel) happily anticipating working a summer job at a drop-in center where she will meet a runaway named AJ.

The Teri Polo and Sherri Saum-starring program -- which tracks the convoluted lives of an interracial lesbian couple raising a blended family of biological, adopted, as well as foster children -- is used to tackle deep social issues.

In Season 3, an actress who is no stranger to vocally addressing societal concerns over subjects as varied as adoption, gun control and 9/11 will be making her return to the series. According to Venture Capital Post, Rosie O'Donnell will be reprising her recurring role on the Jennifer Lopez-produced program.

Huffington Post reported that in 2013, the actress expressed her utter enthusiasm about working on the series.

“My 10-year-old daughter Vivi loves the show,” she said. “She’s a big fan of that whole network, ABC Family. And consequently I’ve been watching nearly all the shows on there.”

Once she saw “The Fosters,” O’Donnell admits to being “really touched by it.”

And she reached out once she realized that Peter Paige, an actor she had known from her previous work on “Queer as Folk,” was an executive producer on the show.

O’Donnell explains the simple process of getting involved with the show as a matter of social media.

“I tweeted about it and texted him congratulations. And, the lovely, lovely guy that he is, he said, ‘Would you be willing to do a recurring arc on the show?’ And I said, ‘Totally.’ So, I’m very excited.”

“The Fosters” will air on Monday, June 8 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC Family.
