The Steven Spielberg-produced CBS sci-fi series about an astronaut (played by Oscar winner Halle Berry) who returns home to her family and finds herself miraculously pregnant after having spent 13 months in outer space on a solo mission, "Exant," will be back for its second season in July.

The sophomore season of the space age series will feature Hilarie Burton, of “One Tree Hill” fame, as an antagonist. According to TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich, the 32-year-old actress will be playing a character named Anna Schaefer, who is described as “a government operative charged with overseeing the militarization of the Humanichs program.”

Mitovich says that the character of Anna will cause “great moral discomfort for Julie (played by Grace Gummer) and Charlie (Tyler Hilton) as she pushes the boundaries of what is ethically sound for the robotic soldiers they are creating.”

Aside from bringing in Burton, actress Melina Kanakaredes of "CSI: NY" will be making her series return on “Extant,” reprising her role as Dorothy, a character that TVLine describes as “a tightly wound, by-the-book circuit court judge."

So there are lots of new faces to complement the Berry-starring show, which -- also starring Camryn Manheim and Goran Visnjic -- has been lauded for its remarkable casting.

When asked by the Guardian if the best acting roles are on TV right now, Berry said: “Anyone in this industry will tell you that that’s where the best writing is."

“It’s not just about making movies any more,” said the 48-year-old stunner, adding that “movies are becoming harder and harder to make.”

Berry stressed that taboo of television is long gone, and that the time movies had been a major deal is over “now we have big screens in our homes.”
