On June 16, TNT will premiere a new original series entitled "Proof."

The series, which stars Jennifer Beals, tells the story of a brilliant surgeon who searches for proof of life after death. The series questions what happens when we die and if reincarnation exists.

The series has been in development for months and Beals recently to the L.A. Times about her character, Dr. Carolyn "Cat" Tyler, a hard-edged cardiothoracic surgeon practicing at a Seattle medical center.

She said, "I've never worked on a TV show that's been this exciting for me." When asked if she believed in life after death, she said, "I believe there is something and it is the values by which people live."

Beals also noted that she studied some surgical techniques before working on her character. "It was important to me to hold onto the scientific point of view," she said.

The show promises to incorporate plotlines that include findings from academic studies conducted in the Netherlands and at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

"Proof" was shot on location in Vancouver, Canada in various locations and was created by Rob Bragin.

The series is set to star Callum Blue, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Matthew Modine and Moe Morton. Serving as executive producers for the show are Kyra Sedgwick ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "The Closer"), Rob Bragin ("Greek," "Murphy Brown"), Tom Jacobson ("Uncle Buck," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"), Jill Littman and Alex Graves ("Game of Thrones," "The West Wing").

TNT will present 10 episodes for the first season and based on reviews and audience the network will order a second season.

TNT has been in charge of producing such series as "The Closer," "Falling Skies," "The Last Ship" and "The Librarians."
