Miguel Cotto scored a spectacular knockout win against Daniel Geale on Saturday night, which will likely lead to a showdown with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Cotto, who improved to 40-4 with 33 knockout victories, needs to defend his World Boxing Council middleweight title against mandatory challenger Gennady Golovkin, but the Puerto Rican sounded sure of facing Alvarez instead of the undefeated Kazakh in his next fight.

"Canelo will be just another fight," Cotto said after the fight via New York Post. "If the people want that fight to happen, it will happen. I will think about what the best option is."

Cotto could lose his middleweight title if he declines to defend the title to Golovkin, unless the reigning International Boxing Organization and World Boxing Association middleweight champion agrees to step aside and wait for the winner of the rumored Cotto-Canelo fight.

Michael Yormark told New York Post that they are confident there will not be any hurdle for the Cotto-Canelo showdown, and also revealed that there is already an agreement between them and Golden Boy Promotions.

"It's the fight everybody wants to see," Yormark said of the Cotto vs. Canelo fight. "It's the fight we're going to make. We have the framework of a deal done. Obviously, we had to wait until tonight. But now we can focus on Miguel's next fight and we're looking forward to it."

Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Alvarez, also confirmed that they are in talks with Cotto and Roc Nation Sports about a fight later this year.

Trainer Freddie Roach also said that Alvarez is the best option at this point, but they will also prepare for Golovkin because he is confident Cotto will win against Canelo.

Roach, who has now helped Cotto win three consecutive fights since linking up in 2013, said that he has watched fights of Alvarez before and he thinks his Puerto Rican fighter has all the tools to dominate. The Hall of Fame trainer even predicted that Cotto can knockout Alvarez in their fight.

"I think so," Roach said, when asked if he thinks Cotto can knockout Alvarez. "I've thought about that fight a lot, and I've watched a lot of tape on that opponent. And I actually thought that it would happen sooner than it is. But I do like that fight. I think it's great for us, it's a great fight for boxing and it's a great fight for the world."
