Selena Gomez attended an event on Sunday for her upcoming film, "Hotel Transylvania 2," with costars Adam Sandler and Kevin James, and while fashionistas are praising her outfit, many are also calling out double standards.

The actress, who was recently named brand ambassador for Pantene, wore a red two-piece outfit and heels to the Cancun, Mexico event and received rave reviews for her look. However, her male costars where not dressed any where near as glamorous as the young starlet was.

Women in Hollywood have to endure many double standards when it comes to clothing on and off the red carpet and the reaction to Gomez's attire, in comparison to that of her costars, is proof.

Comedians Adam Sandler and Kevin James showed up wearing sneakers, shirts and casual pants to the event and this angered fans. According to Cosmopolitan, many have pointed out that if Gomez was to show up to an event in sweats and sneakers she would be ridiculed by peers and the public.

Fellow actresses Kristen Stewart and Shailene Woodley have been known to be criticized for wearing sneakers and looking too casual on the red carpet, but their male peers don't exactly get the same criticism. ET Online reports how Adam Sandler has a "history of under-dressing" for red carpet events. While that has become part of his public persona, he is not the only male celebrity to do so.

Male hip-hop artists walk red carpets in sneakers, while their female peers, like Ciara or Nicki Minaj, would be criticized for opting to wear casual clothing.

Most recently the criticism of actress Zendaya Coleman, for her hairstyle choice at the Academy Awards, and the scandal at the Cannes Film Festival, with rumours that female guest were instructed to stay away from flat shoes, have only fueled Hollywood's double standards for women.
