On Thursday, David Nevins, the entertainment president of Showtime, discussed the possibility of a Dexter spin-off.

Dexter ended its violent eight month run four months ago. Since then, executives have been contemplating spin-off possibilities.

"We continue to talk about it," Nevins said at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. "If we were to do it, we have to have a very good reason to do it. It has to feel like it's a new show. I'm not interested in doing it if it's just a continuation."

Nevins added that he would only work on a spinoff show if Michael C. Hall, the actor who played primetime's favorite serial killer, participated.

In April, Scott Buck, Dexter executive producer, was signed to a two-year development deal with Showtime, heightening speculation that a spin-off would follow. In September, Buck named his idea for a hypothetical spinoff.

"That's a question more for Showtime but for me, if they want to move forward with something else, I'm absolutely there for them," Buck told The Hollywood Reporter. "Of course I have ideas for one. Deb and Quinn would be fantastic. I think they're a great couple."

Hall also had some ideas for where the next chapter in the Dexter universe would head.

"It would star Masuka, that's all I know for sure," he said.

Jennifer Carpenter, on the other hand, is not interested in reprising her role of Deb.

"I would not do that because I've played her," she said. "I've played her from start to finish."

A couple more actors had spinoff ideas, but the best idea comes from David Zayas, who played Angel.

"Maybe the aftermath of the information that eventually comes out," he said. "Maybe the aftermath of Dexter's son and what he is going to represent and how he is going to grow up. There are so many things I could say, but those are two interesting things."

Despite the controversial ending to show, Nevins insists that it was not done to keep the hope of a Dexter spin-off alive.

"The people who are really in the center -- Michael, Scott Buck, Sara Colleton, no one even brought up the idea [of killing Dexter]," he explained. "It was never discussed ... It remains to be seen whether they're going to want to do [a spin-off] or whether I'm going to want to do it. They never felt like killing Dexter was the right end."
