The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly eyeing Jeremy Lin as one of their options to fill the void left by Monta Ellis after the high-scoring guard opted out of the final year of his contract to become a free agent this summer.

The Mavericks, who failed to advance past the first round of the 2015 NBA Playoffs after losing to the Houston Rockets in five games, are expected to look for another guard this summer to replace Ellis. But it does not necessarily mean they will look for a scorer like Ellis, who posted 18.9 points per game last season.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the Mavericks will prioritize signing a big man this summer. Recent reports indicated that they are interested in All-Star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who is expected to leave the Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Clippers starting center DeAndre Jordan.

If the Mavericks successfully sign a big-name frontline player this summer, they might not have enough cap space to go after expensive guards like Wesley Matthews and Danny Green.

According to RealGM, Green is looking for his first big contract this summer and could command $10 to $12 million from a team outside of the San Antonio Spurs, while Matthews is looking for a $15 million annual salary despite sustaining a torn Achilles tendon last season.

The high asking price of Green and Matthews is reportedly the reason why the Mavericks are looking at other available guards in free agency, including Lin, who is not expected to return to the Los Angeles Lakers after playing for just one season with the team.

Lin averaged 11.2 points to go along with 4.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game with the Lakers last season. The 26-year-old point guard has connection within the Mavericks organization as he has developed a close relationship with star forward Chandler Parsons during their stay in Houston.

But aside from Lin, the Mavericks are also being linked to veteran point guard Mo Williams. The 32-year-old playmaker, who averaged 14.2 points and 6.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Charlotte Hornets, is also open to playing in Dallas next season.

The Mavericks could also decide to address the need for another guard through the 2015 NBA Draft on Thursday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Mavericks holds the 21st and 52nd overall pick in the draft this year.
