There was a time -- not so long ago, we should add -- that you couldn't go anywhere without seeing Zac Efron, or hearing his name. The former High School Musical star had it all...and he seemed to lose it all when he checked into rehab early last year for his addiction to alcohol and cocaine. Now, the former teen star is back with a new movie, and he gave his first exclusive post-rehab interview to promote a new film.

The star of That Awkward Moment seemed a bit uncomfortable, but relieved, after he answered the interviewer's questions. He was recently seen wearing an Alcoholics Anonymous button celebrating six months of sobriety, and he told Savannah Guthrie that he was happy to be where he was after rehab.

"I'm so happy. I feel like I'm in a great place and I'm glad that I'm really here to share this moment with everybody and be present for all of it. It was an interesting year. I learned so many things. So much. The best part of it was being able to reflect upon that experience and realize how much I have learned about myself and the kind of man I want to be. This movie, these guys and coming back to it and to New York -- just being here in this moment, it just kind of exemplifies it. I couldn't be happier. I'm in a great place," he said.

But Savannah stressed that the main focus of both her and Zac's fans was that everyone know that "he was doing okay."

Zac was happy to share his status with The Today Show, and with America at large. "I'm in the best place I've ever been. I've never been this happy before. I'm extraordinarily grateful for these guys and to be here promoting this movie. I don't know. Things are good. I don't know. Thank you for asking," he replied.

That Awkward Moment also co-stars Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller.
