"WWE SmackDown" opened with a promo featuring The Authority as WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins continues to promote his match against Brock Lesnar at "WWE Battleground." Rollins is confirmed for the main event against former Shield member Roman Reigns.

Fellow former Shield member Dean Ambrose had the honor of the first match against Bray Wyatt. After several weeks, Wyatt finally has a match on television. The finish saw Wyatt cleanly pinning Ambrose. It won't, however, be the last of Ambrose in the show.

Adam Rose appeared to cut a promo until R-Truth interrupted him. The two then had a match with R-Truth pinning Rose.

Singles competition continued with Intercontinental Champion Ryback competing against Mark Henry in a non-title match. After a promo by Henry, Ryback defeated him with the Shellshock.

Naomi and Brie Bella are next in the ring. Naomi lost against Bella following an assist by Alicia Fox.

WWE Tag Team Champion The Prime Time Players continued their momentum as they defeated The Ascension in a non-title match.

Rusev and Summer Rae entered the ring and cut a promo against Dolph Ziggler and Lana. Rusev attracted plenty of heat during the promo. During the segment, Rusev accidentally called Summer Rae "Lana."

The main event was next. Rollins appeared and tried to get a victory by forfeit if Reigns did not enter the ring in time. Reigns made it on time, but the match ended in disqualification due to Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury interfering. Ambrose reappeared to save Reigns. Ambrose was able to beat down Mercury, which helped concluded the "SmackDown" taping.

Meanwhile, the WWE will air the live "Beast in the East" special from Tokyo on July 4, at 5:30 a.m. EST, featuring Lesnar's first match since "WrestleMania." The special will also include NXT Champion Kevin Owens defending his title against Finn Balor -- the latter who developed a lengthy wrestling career in Japan prior to his WWE debut in 2014.
