The third installment to "Star Trek" has begun production and director Justin Lin has confirmed the new title to the film.

The new installment will likely be titled "Star Trek Beyond." In a new tweet posted on Twitter, the director used the hashtag "#StarTrekBeyond" alongside a picture of one of the costumes for the film.

It would not be surprising if this ended up being the title for the film as Simon Pegg previously shared the title in an interview. Pegg has been vocal about the film and has talked about the number of edits the script has gone through since he and his co-writer began working on the writing process. He has also been adamant about the difficulties on writing the script and how the studio has intervened.

While Paramount has yet to reveal the title, after Lin and Pegg's posts, it is likely the studio will confirm information in the next few weeks.

No plot details have been announced but rumor has it that details may be revealed at Comic-Con.

The new film is set to star Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Chekov. Sofia Boutella is joining the cast while Idris Elba is rumored to be playing the villain. However, Paramount has yet to confirm the casting news.

The "Star Trek" series was revived in 2009 and became one of the most critically acclaimed films of that year. It went on to get nominated for the Producers Guild of America and won an Academy Award. The second installment, "Star Trek: Into Darkness," was also praised but failed to live up to the box office of the original. "Star Trek Beyond" is highly anticipated and it will be interesting to see how the final installment pans out with Lin replacing the franchise's original director, J.J. Abrams.

"Star Trek Beyond" will is set to hit theaters on July, 8, 2016.
