“Thor 3: Ragnarok” will be hitting theaters on November 3, 2017, which, based on the chronology of the films slated for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is still five films away. Despite having its release date in two years, Marvel Studios is reportedly moving faster than fans might initially think.

According to the interview Collider had with Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, they will finally be making an announcement regarding the director and writer of “Thor 3: Ragnarok” “probably towards the end of the summer.” Feige even hinted that the roles could be given to the same person who helmed the first installments in the “Thor” franchise, or it could be given to "two different people.”

It was recently rumored by Popcorn Talk that Marvel is looking forward to bringing back director Kenneth Branagh for another “Thor” movie. However, Feige was pretty quick to refute such claims. “Not true,” he said. “I do not know where that came from.”

Feige also revealed that “Thor 3: Ragnarok” is going to start its production stages “middle of next year.”

It is worth noting, though, that James Gunn is the only writer-director who remains in the Marvel circle. The other films, such as the “Spider-Man” reboot, “Captain America 3: Civil War,” and “Doctor Strange,” all have a separate writer and director. That said, Collider has pointed out that it is highly likely Marvel will want to hire a director who comes from the indie film industry.

Furthermore, it has been reported by multiple online sources that “Captain America 3: Civil War” is going to be Marvel’s most star-studded blockbuster to date. Sadly, Thor is not going to be suiting up in this film – which picks up where the previous film, “Captain America 2: Winter Soldier,” left off.

Still, though, despite being a big movie that will “kick off to Phase 3,” Feige has insisted to io9 that the upcoming “Captain America” film, sans Thor, is actually about “a very simple story.”

“It is very much a ‘Captain America’ movie,” he said. “It is very much a sequel to ‘The Winter Soldier’ in ways I do not think people will expect. It is a very simple structure that allows you to have these amazing character interactions in a way that I do not think becomes overwhelming.”
