At the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) Media Summit luncheon, actress Eva Longoria did not hold back when asked about Donald Trump and his controversial comments.

The star gave some insight into the effect of Trump's comments instead of just simply stating why they were wrong.

"What I don't think he understands and what people don't understand is words create emotional poison," Longoria told E! Online's Marc Malkin. "That's what they do, they create emotional poison."

The 40-year-old is known for publicly supporting her Latino heritage and even educating herself on its history and cultural ideas, which she proved when she went to school and got a Master's degree in "Chicano Studies" from California State University, as USA Today reported.

Longoria's comparison to Hitler came from her intent to show the power a few words have and the understandable uproar they can create, as Trump's comments about immigrants from Mexico being "rapists" and that they bring crime and drugs to the U.S., have done.

"Hitler moved a nation with words, just words," continued the Mexican-American star. "So you have to expect this backlash. If you say something like that, as he has said, you must expect a backlash."

Although many of her Hollywood peers were quick to comment on Trump, Longoria said she was very hesitant to publicly discuss Trump because she did not want to give the presidential candidate anymore attention.

"It struck a cord within our community that touched our emotions so deep that I don't want to contribute to that poison being spread because if I contribute, its just going to bring even more attention to the original comments," she said.

Longoria's comments came after Cheryl Burke and Thomas Roberts announced that they would not be hosting the Miss USA pageant and NBC cut ties with Trump.
