After a 22-year hiatus from the "Evil Dead" franchise, Bruce Campbell is back to portray the long-time cult-favorite Ash in the new "Ash vs Evil Dead" TV series on Starz, according to Entertainment Weekly.

In his last bout with the deadites of the "Evil Dead," the franchise took a medieval turn and sent him back to the age of knights and warriors where the dim-witted hero took on a comical and heroic personality in "Army of Darkness."

This time though, the legendary hero returns to battle them in a 10-episode TV series run that will include the return of the original film's creator, Sam Raimi.

Campbell recently spoke with EW about his character Ash and gave them a little insight about what he's been up to since he last battled the dead.

"He was perfectly happy doing basically nothing: telling lies about how he lost his hand in bars late at night. That was basically his M.O. So, he's not really the guy who should be dealing with this right now. But...he is. He's our guy!" Campbell told EW.

But, once again, Ash is responsible for unleashing the deadites on the world, director Raimi told them.

"He's the only one stupid enough to really tamper with those spirits," Raimi said. "And he does. But he's also still a really good monster fighter. So, he's also going to be kicking some deadite buttocks, if you'll pardon the French."

Raimi has already directed the first episode in the series and said there is much to look forward to.

"It's 'The Searchers' with carnage and mayhem," Campbell said about the series. "I'm relegated a little bit into the John Wayne mode these days with my team -- the young, virile, evil fighters who will pair up with Ash and take on this nemesis: this never ending, ever evolving nemesis."

ComingSoon reports that Campbell will be joined on-screen with Lucy Lawless, who he previously worked with on the "Xena: Warrior Princess" series. He will also be joined by Ray Santiago, Pablo Simon Bolivar, Dana DeLorenzo and Jill Marie Jones.
