Residents in the state of Maine have a bone to pick with their Republican governor, Paul LePage, which includes their favorite resident and horror author Stephen King.

According to the Bangor Daily News, rallies have been held at the statehouse in Augusta to oppose LePage's inaction over the state budget.

LePage recently vetoed a budget bill that lawmakers in the state have been considering overriding. This led to rallies that were both against the governor and other conservative groups that were in favor of his actions.

Bangor Daily News also reported author and Maine resident Stephen King joined in on the fight via Twitter and expressed his dismay with the governor's actions.

"Paul LePage has become a terrible embarrassment to the state I live in and love. If he won't govern, he should resign," King wrote in the Tweet.

This was not the first time King had issues with LePage's actions. Back in March, the governor said that Maine's residents are moving away to avoid paying high taxes in the state, which he had been rallying to lower for the conservative cause. King quickly fired back on social media with another Tweet that countered his assertions.

"Governor Paul LePage implied that I don't pay my taxes. I do. Every cent. I think he needs to man up and apologize.," King wrote on the Tweet back on March 19 of this year.

A petition has been formed on the left-leaning website MoveOn.org by residents in the state that call for the impeachment of the embattled governor, who has been slowly losing the favor and trust of his constituents.

The petition at the time of this posting had 16,045 signatures and only needs 20,000 to become a successful campaign.

Last October, King penned an op-ed letter on the Bangor Daily News, calling out the likely Democratic candidate and expressing support for another candidate of the same party, Michael Michaud.

"I like Eliot Cutler. He's a smart guy, and I voted for him for governor last time around, when it became clear that Libby Mitchell couldn't win. I won't do it this time, because it's Cutler who can't win, and if Gov. Paul LePage gets a second term, he should send Cutler a case of champagne to thank him for his help," King wrote in the letter.
