Brian Dutcher's threats to kill President Barack Obama have led to federal charges for the Wisconsin man who is now being detained in a mental health facility.

According to the Associated Press, Dutcher allegedly told a security guard that he wanted to shoot the president during a visit to La Crosse, where Obama held an event on Thursday promoting his proposal to make more workers eligible for overtime pay.

"The usurper is here, and if I get a chance, I'll take him out and I'll take the shot." Dutcher told a security guard at the local library, Politico said based on documents detailing the charges against the 55 year old.

The man had also published a warning on Facebook, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

"That's it! Thursday I will be in La Crosse," he posted. "Hopefully I will get a clear shot at the pretend president. Killing him is our constitutional duty!"

La Crosse County authorities sought a civil commitment for Dutcher, who remains in a mental health facility, according to U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil. For the time being, the man has not been scheduled to appear in federal court.

The Secret Service, the federal agency charged with protecting the president and other high dignitaries, on Wednesday interviewed Dutcher, who had earlier told a La Crosse police detective that his threat was serious and that he intended to carry out his plan to kill Obama, according to an affidavit filed by Special Agent Jeffrey Ferris.

Though his Facebook post was not publicly accessible on Thursday, Dutcher appears to have previously made other threatening comments, the Wisconsin State Journal added.

"I have been praying on going to (Washington) for 3 months, and now the usurper is coming here, saving me an 800 mile trip," he wrote. "Doing what I do for my daughter, so she can live free. Pray for me to succeed in my mission."
