Academy award winning actress Sandra Bullock recently spoke to E! News at the "Minions" press junket about why she accepted People's offer to be the cover girl for its Most Beautiful issue.

Bullock explained that she accepted the offer and used it as a platform to share her opinion of the media's scrutiny against women. Bullock also explained that she used the offer as her way of acknowledging the hard working women who she finds beautiful.

"I laughed when [People] said they're gonna be generous and bestow me this wonderful privilege, but I said if I can talk about the amazing women who I find beautiful, which are these women who rise above and take care of business and do wonderful things, and take care of each other, then I'm more than honored to be on the cover of this," she said.

And though Bullock acknowledges that there are women rallying together to fight for women's rights, she feels that the media is responsible for diminishing those efforts and criticizing the way female public figures look.

"I feel like it's become open hunting season in how women are attacked [in media] and it's not because of who we are as people, it's because of how we look or our age," she said. "I'm shocked-and maybe I was just naïve, but I'm embarrassed by it."

Because of the constant criticism and scrutiny of women in media, little girls are also being criticized and bullied in schools, Bullock explained.

"Little girls are having the hardest time with bullying and the Internet-somebody with a very large hand and big voice needs to put a stop to it," she said. "We are harming girls and women in a way, at a speed that it's scaring me. It's really scaring me, so I would love for someone to help put a stop to this."
