Professional wrestler-turned-Hollywood action star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been one of the hardest working men in the industry as of lately.

He recently took over the box-office with films like "Furious 7" and "San Andreas." But now, the star is about to take on giant monsters in the film adaptation of the "Rampage" video game, according to Games Radar.

Johnson is no stranger to portraying video game adaptations on the big screen with 2005's "Doom," which was met with critical and financial disappointment. But now that the seasoned Hollywood veteran has proven himself at the box-office with strong hauls in his last several films, he could conceivably pull off another box-office hit with this new project.

The film, which is based on the '80s arcade game from Midway, will feature the three flagship monsters that are inherent to the game. They are the giant gorilla, lizard and wolf that lay waste to cities in their wake, according to Deadline.

The massive scale production for this movie has not started yet, but will begin soon after Johnson finishes up filming for the forthcoming "Furious 8," which is expected to hit theaters in April of 2017.

The film is being scribed by Ryan Eagle, who is best known for his work on "Non-Stop." Beau Flynn is on board to produce the film, which he previously teamed with Johnson on "San Andreas." A director for the project has not been attached yet, but will likely be named soon with the pre-production stages starting to fill out.

The original video game was supposed to play off the popularity of classic giant creatures like King Kong and Godzilla. Even the Wolfman was present, although all the characters were not officially named that due to ownership rights. But they still stacked the numbers and drew fans all across the nation, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Johnson will no doubt have his work cut out for him in this new large-scale disaster production, but it could be everything his fans want to see him do.
