Tinder, the online dating service that matches users based on pictures and profiles, is now letting celebrities verify who they say they are, according to Engadget.

Verified Tinder accounts will allow high-profile users to confirm who they are with a verified badge. This is similar to what Facebook and Twitter do with celebrities and well-known individuals. When a user encounters a verified Tinder profile, they will see a little blue checkmark next to verified user's name.

Tinder says that verified accounts are available to "notable public figures, celebrities, and athletes."

There have been rumors that notable people have been using Tinder. Some users reported seeing actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Hilary Duff in their recommendations list.

With the verified Tinder profiles, users now know that these profiles are real and not just imposters posing as celebrities.

"Now when notable pubic figures, celebrities and athletes appear in your recommendations, you'll know it's for real," the Tinder blog post read.

The verified Tinder profiles that have the blue checkmark signify that the profile has been reviewed by Tinder employees as genuine.

According to recent data, there are 1.6 billion Tinder profiles and more than 26 million matches are made per day.

Duff's presence on Tinder helped give the service some increased exposure. She expressed wanting to find a "normal" boyfriend and told her followers about the app, according to Inquisitr.

The possibility of having verified accounts has been explored by Tinder since last year, but it looks like it took the team a while to get them up and running.

Getting verified by Tinder will likely be dependent on the user's Facebook profile. Tinder is connected to users' Facebook profiles, and if they are already verified on Facebook, that should result in a verified Tinder profile as well.
