Aaron Hernandez has a new pen pal that he calls a "very special lady" and signs his letters to as "Aaron the hunk."

Radar obtained a copy of a letter the former NFL star recently shared with his new lady love in which he also declares he "hasn't been unhappy about his situation."

The 25-year-old former New England Patriots star tight end is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Massachusetts after recently being convicted of first-degree murder in the execution style killing of one-time associate Odin Lloyd.

Hernandez reportedly remains engaged to girlfriend Shayanna Jenkins, but that didn't stop him from sharing with his new found friend, "You definitely crossed my mind often and it makes me smile every time."

In the letter, Hernandez insists that he remains happy every day and has become a source of inspiration for his fellow inmates.

"I have the biggest smile on my face right now," he wrote. "Yes, I have been convicted of a crime and sentenced to life in jail when I'm innocent but God has a plan for us all. Maybe he wanted me in here to bring an uplifting mood to all these others, which I tend to do naturally by being around people with my optimistic view on life. It is sad yes but I will be free one day hopefully it sooner than later, but it will be one day that's for sure."

Hernandez also faces double murder charges stemming from a 2012 drive-by shooting in downtown Boston outside a nightclub. Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu died in a hail of gunfire after prosecutors allege Hernandez opened fire as revenge for one of them spilling a drink on him in the club and failing to apologize.
