A bomb threat was called in to the Cal State University Los Angeles campus today, prompting a mass exodus of terrified students and teachers from the school.

Sometime before noon, an anonymous call was sent in to the campus claiming that a bomb would be detonated in two hours. School officials soon decided that they would evacuate everyone as a precaution, setting off fire alarms and sending out messages on Twitter.

"he CSULA campus is closed as of noon, April 18, as a precaution. Those on campus should evacuate immediately," CSULA tweeted in one message, another reading: "The campus is being evacuated due to an emergency. We don't have additional information at this time."

Journalism professor Jon Beaupre said the fire alarm went off at 12:15 p.m. during his lecture. After his class arrived outside, they were told about the potential of there being a bomb in the area, and tensions quickly rose.

"That led to a mad dash, grabbing bags to get people out of here," Beaupre said. He believes that the evacuation involved around 8,000 students."[It's] looking a little scary."

After authorities did a thorough scan of the area, it has now been determined that no bomb was ever present. That's not stopping those who go to the school from voicing their concern over how the situation was handled, however.

"I am still waiting to receive either a text message or an email!!! And this happened about 1 hour and 30 mins ago," tweeted Jonny Barrios.

Students aren't the only ones. Faculty members are also critical of how CSULA handled the incident, citing a general lack of direction and guidance during the most tense moments of the day.

"It was more of a casual response," said one faculty member who wished to not be identified. "People were sitting in cars listening to music because they didn't want to leave in the jam. No one was hurt, but you do see this as a kind of trial run when you hope that there would be someone with a yellow jack saying 'You need to go home.' We were hungry for some official notification and it wasn't forthcoming."
