Rupert Murdoch, the media mogul behind Fox News, has joined the choir of people and corporations blasting Donald Trump for his inflammatory remarks about Mexican immigrants.

The billionaire real estate mogul has received major backlash since he called Mexican immigrants drug traffickers and rapists during his presidential election announcement speech on June 16.

Following his attack on Mexicans, Univision and NBCUniversal canceled their contracts to air the Miss Universe Pageant, which he co-owns. In addition, Macy's, ESPN and Ora TV, a television company controlled by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, also cut their ties with Trump.

On Sunday, Murdoch chimed in with his two cents about Trump's remarks, saying that his accusations about immigrants are "wrong."

"Mexican immigrants, as with all immigrants, have much lower crime rates than native born. Eg El Paso safest city in U.S. Trump wrong," wrote the 84-year-old business magnate on Twitter.

Murdoch, who is one of the most influential voices in the Republican Party, also backed up his swipe at Trump by citing FBI statistics that show that the mass majority of incarcerated people are American citizens, reports CNN.

"So FBI says 267000 illegal aliens incarcerated. Who are the other two million presently incarcerated?" tweeted the Australian-born mogul, who became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1985.

Murdoch added that Trump's popularity has grown "based on frustration with DC and endless regulations over people's lives."

In contrast, Fox News host Sean Hannity has praised Trump's controversial comments during an episode of his TV program "Hannity" in late June.

"I agree with Mr. Trump. As somebody who has been down to the border 11 times, I have seen the drug warehouses, I was there when criminals were arrested, I know the human trafficking side," he said on June 29, according to The Washington Post.
