A live-action "Aladdin" prequel is coming to Disney. It will be another live-action film set to be released in the coming years.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Disney is developing "Genies," a live-action comedy and a prequel to "Aladdin." The project is being written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who both wrote the "Freddy vs Jason" movie. Tripp Vinson is listed as producer.

"Genies" tells the tale of the Genie, voiced by the late Robin Williams in the 1992 original animated movie, and how he ended up in the lamp. "Aladdin" tells the story of a street urchin who finds a lamp that unleashes a Genie who grants him three wishes. The movie went on to be one of Disney's best films.

With the untimely death of Robin Williams, the movie is looking for an actor to portray Genie. The part could go to James Inglehart, who won a Tony award for his performance portraying the Genie in the Broadway version of "Aladdin." It is not known if it will be the same Genie that Robin Williams voiced or it will be a different one.

According to Rolling Stone, Disney has had success in live-action remakes of films such as "Cinderella," "Maleficent" (based on "Sleeping Beauty") and "Alice in Wonderland." Disney has a live-action version of "Pinocchio" and "Winnie The Pooh" in the works.

Also being made into a live action film is "The Jungle Book," which will mix both live-action and animation, and a new take of "Beauty and the Beast," which will star Emma Watson, scheduled for release in 2017.

Disney also announced that a live-action version of "Prince Charming," a stand-alone movie based on a character in "Cinderella." It is now known when the movie will come out.
