An African American group and a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan were both scheduled to hold demonstrations at the same time around the grounds of the South Carolina State House on Saturday.

According to Reuters, Gov. Nikki Haley is urging residents to steer clear of the Klan rally, which has been largely fueled by lawmaker's recent decision to remove the Confederate flag from the State House grounds following the unprovoked killing of nine black people in a nearby historically black Charleston church last month at the hands of a 21-year-old self-proclaimed white supremacist sympathizer.

In addition, investigators also uncovered a website connected to alleged church shooter Dylann Roof where he posed for pictures with the flag and penned a racist manifesto promoting his views.

"Our family hopes the people of South Carolina will join us in staying away from the disruptive, hateful spectacle members of the Ku Klux Klan hope to create over the weekend and instead focus on what brings us together," Haley said in a statement she posted on Facebook.

Reuters reports The Loyal White Knights, a Pelham, North Carolina-based chapter that bills itself as "the largest Klan in America," expects roughly 200 people to attend the two-hour demonstration kicking off at 3 p.m.

A voice message on the chapter's phone line ranted members are "standing up for our Confederate history and all the Southerners who fought and died against federal tyranny. Our government is trying to erase white culture and our heritage right out of the pages of our history books."

Meanwhile, leaders of the Jacksonville, Florida-based Black Educators for Justice Group run by former Black Panther Party director James Evans Muhammad indicate they expect about 300 protesters at their four hour rally.

The group cites highlighting continuing racial inequality" as part of its mission and stresses that hardship remains for many despite the Confederate flag's removal.

"The flag coming down is not progress," said Muhammad. "It is an illusion of progress."

Muhammad said his group would not interfere with the Klan rally during the hour the two groups occupy the north side of the Capitol building.
