Comedian D. L. Hughley does not believe that Caitlyn Jenner deserved her recent ESPY award for putting "on a dress."

The TV actor told TMZ that it's absurd that the legacy of Arthur Ashe lives on with the transgender woman and former Olympian. Hughley said the award should have been given to someone like Lauren Hill, a college basketball player who died of cancer.

The comedian also insulted Jenner's appearance, saying that she looks like a Robin Williams character named Mrs. Doubtfire.

Jenner supporters responded to Hughley's comments calling him a bully, E! News reports. Yet, the comedian stood by his remarks.

"I've now unfollowed on FB & Twitter," One Twitter user said about Hughley. "I don't get your bullying. Always thought you'd support people living their true selves."

Jenner made her first public appearance as a transgender at the ESPY Awards wearing a white Versace gown on Wednesday. She made her debut as a woman on the cover of Vanity Fair about a month ago.

Formerly known as Bruce Jenner, the trans woman Caitlyn was given the Arthur Ashe Courage Award for making her transition at the age of 65, after she was already known to the world for her sports career.

Hill, the 19-year-old who died of cancer, won the Best Moment Award, which was received by her parents.

"I think that Lauren Hill was courage in the name of sports," Hughley said. "I think Arthur Ashe and Caitlyn Jenner have very little in common."

Jenner, a 1976 Olympic decathlon champion, accepted her award on Wednesday encouraging people to have more respect for the transgender community.

Respect results in "a more compassionate community, a more empathetic society and a better world for all of us," she said in her heartfelt speech.
