Vice President Joe Biden will travel to Southern California to promote the Obama administration's efforts to raise the minimum wage across the nation on Wednesday.

Biden is set to speak at Bobrick Washroom Equipment, a local business in North Hollywood, CBS Los Angeles noted.

The issue has been on the administration's agenda ever since President Barack Obama used his 2014 State of the Union address to call on Congress to up the baseline from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour. The president also decreed the $10.10 figure for individuals working on new federal service contracts through an executive order.

Biden, for his part, said last year that the proposed minimum-wage increase would pump $19 billion into the national economy, because wage-earners would have more to spend, the Associated Press recalled"It's good for business, good for the economy, good for people," said the vice president during an October lunch stop at a Mexican restaurant in downtown Las Vegas, which was part of a six-city swing that also included a stop in Los Angeles.

The metropolitan area of California's largest city has long been on the forefront of the issue, and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted on Tuesday to consider lifting the minimum wage for some workers to $15, which is more than twice the federal baseline. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, meanwhile, argued that "the nation is watching what we do here in Los Angeles as a region," according to the Los Angeles Times.

In his remarks at Bobrick Washroom Equipment, Biden "will highlight the importance of increasing the minimum wage to give anyone who works hard every day the chance to earn a livable wage and get on a pathway to the middle class," the White House said in a statement, MyNewsLA.com noted.

The North Hollywood business's history goes back to 1906, and the company's philosophy includes a "strong commitment to employee development" at its six manufacturing divisions in the United States and Canada, the website detailed.
