The two hottest phones in America aren't even being sold yet. One of those phones, the Samsung Galaxy S5, hits store shelves in Q2 or Q3 of this year. Following on the heels of the Galaxy S5 will be Apple Inc.'s latest and greatest device, the iPhone 6. The eighth iteration of the iPhone is expected to be announced and released this fall. Will either smartphone live up to the immense hype? Samsung needs a big hit. Although the Galaxy S4 was a good seller for Samsung, it failed to match all the hype attributed to it.

So what kind of specs will the Galaxy S5 have? OLED-Display and Gotta Be Mobile picked up a report that says the new phone will have a super high resolution, 5.25-inch display. If you've followed the evolution of the Galaxy S lineup you'll know that this is the largest screen yet. The GS3 and GS4 models came out with 4.8-inch and 5-inch screens respectively. This ever growing screen size begs the question: how big is too big?

The Galaxy S5's CPU will be new and improved as well. But analysts disagree over what type of chip Samsung will choose. For instance, will the processor that Samsung selects for this phone be 32- or 64-bit. The only phone with a 64-bit chip on the market today is Apple's iPhone 5s, which the iPhone 6 will replace. A 64-bit chip in the Galaxy S5 would mean that Apple couldn't boast about being the only device maker that utilizes the technology. Samsung would be wise to jump on the 64-bit train lest future performance gaps start to widen. Another consideration is what chip manufacturer will they use? They could make their own (Exynos) or rely on Snapdragon's upcoming 805 quad-core processor.

The iPhone 6 will finally feature a larger display and improved resolution. How large exactly? 4.7-inch or 4.8-inch seems to be the sweet spot according to analysts. The smaller iPhone 6 resolution will be full HD 1080P; the larger will have a 1280p screen per Tech Radar. Expect the new iPhone to ship with a dual-core A8 64-bit chip and iOS 8. The latest and great iOS will likely keep the same colorful look of iOS 7 and include an even more powerful version of Siri. Without improvements to Siri, Apple will be way behind the digital assistant curve. Google Now is eons better than Siri and has been for well over year now.
