Fortunately, there's hope for fans of "The Originals" to see more of Kol in Season 3, as the Mikaelson clan faces off with sire vampires when the show returns to The CW this fall.

While speaking at the 2015 Comic-Con in San Diego earlier this month, the executive producers of the vampire drama revealed that the new season will include scenes featuring the entire Mikaelson family about 10 years after they were transformed into Original vampires. This suggests that actor Nathaniel Buzolic could return to reprise the role of Kol Mikaelson through flashback scenes.

"We talked a lot about how the Mikaelsons have been around for 1,000 years and somewhere along the way, they probably turned a bunch of people into vampires," said executive producer Michael Narducci, according to Entertainment Weekly. "Those vampires know that if an Original dies, as we saw with Finn and we saw with Kol, an entire sire line would be wiped off. What perspective do those sired vampires have - all of them, the remaining three sire lines - what do they think about the continued existence of the Mikaelson family? That's the seed for season 3."

The producers also previewed a scene at Comic-Con that was cut out of the Season 2 finale that showed the sire vampires seeking revenge against their parents.

"The Mikaelsons were able to vanquish their parents and their evil nasty auntie, so now they get to experience what it's like to be the so-called parents themselves of their first line of sired vampires. The children are coming to town with an axe to grind," said executive producer Julie Plec.

As a result, viewers will see flashbacks of the Mikaelsons, including Nathaniel Buzolic as Kol, during their early years as vampires.

"We're going to get a glimpse of the whole Original family about 10 years after they were turned and see what their lives are like as they're struggling to adapt," Plec said. "If we're lucky, we may see Finn as well."

There is also a possibility that Kol could return to New Orleans in the present time since Rebekah (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) and Davina (Danielle Campbell) promised to find a way to resurrect him.

Plec also revealed that Klaus and Hayley will engage in a fierce custody battle over their baby Hope, despite the fact that Hayley has been stricken with the Crescent Curse.

"There is, in fact, a custody fight early on in the season that turns violent," Plec said.

Klaus will not likely have sole custody of their child, since "he's going to do badly as a single parent," said series star Joseph Morgan. "He knows he's messing it up but at least he's trying."

CarterMatt also revealed that Freya is going to be a much bigger part of this season, while Klaus will discover more of Cami's dark side.

The new season of "The Originals" will premiere on The CW come Thursday, Oct. 8.
