Fans of English musician and songwriter Ed Sheeran will finally get a chance to see more of the artist outside his concerts. It has been announced that the "Thinking Out Loud" singer will be part of FX's new medieval series, "The Bastard Executioner."

The ginger-haired singer will grace televisions in a recurring role, noted The Hollywood Reporter. Sheeran will portray Sir Cormac, an "ambitious and deadly protégé of a high-ranking church elder."

Kurt Sutter, who is behind the series, "Sons of Anarchy," will create the historical drama based on a 14th century swordsman who received a divine message that will see him change his life and view of the world as a journeyman executioner.

The six-time Grammy Awards nominee has once admitted that he is a fan of "Sons of Anarchy" and its director. He recorded a cover of the Foy Vance original "Make It Rain" for the penultimate episode of the series titled "Red Rose," added THR.

The upcoming medieval drama is the first foray of the 24-year-old in television acting. He will join actors Stephen Moyer, known for his role as Bill Compton in the HBO original, "True Blood," Katey Sagal from "Sons of Anarchy," Flora Spencer-Longhurst who starred in "Unforgiven" and Lee Jones of "Void." It was also revealed that Sutter will be part of the cast but it's not yet clear what role he will play for the period drama.

The musician already hinted of his possible inclusion in the series in an interview with The Sun.

"It's a medieval TV show and it's really, really dark," Sheeran told the news outlet early this year. "It's gruesome and it's going to be fine because my friend wrote it."

The singer hopes that his fans and followers will appreciate the genre of the series.

"I feel like people would expect me to be in a rom-com or something," the singer.said, as quoted by Captial FM. "So I wanted to be in something people don't expect me to."

The singer is a fan of medieval and period series and enjoys HBO's "Game of Thrones." He has also written and sang the song, "I See Fire," which was part of the movie, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," reported Screen Rant.

"The Bastard Executioner" is set to debut in the small screen in October.
